It is the process of assisting an individual to achieve their goals. These goals may be towards an improvement of their ability or wellbeing. Coaching takes them from where they currently are, to where they want to be

Caution
  • Due to lax regulations for coaches, anyone could label themselves as coaches, and sell their services to others


  • Coaches do not set your goals for you, they only assist you in working towards the achievement


  • Coaches are different from Counsellors and from Mentors:


        -    Counsellors explore your past to help remove obstacles to your progress


        -    Coaches deal with the present to help you learn how to achieve your goals


        -    Mentors discuss your future and aid you in identifying what your goals could be


Therapy for:


There are coaches for a number of situations, all with the aim of improving the functional wellbeing of the individual.

  • Other forms include Sports and Vocal coaches


  • The coach is not necessarily an expert in the chosen domain, instead, they are facilitators


  • The coach therefore does not teach, rather, they help the individual to learn
