White Noise

This is stream of sound that has no auditory pattern that humans can recognise. It is similar to the constant humming of refrigerator in the background.

Caution
  • May be annoying to some people


  • May be poorly tolerated


  • May affect complex brain function if used for too long  

         (This effect was observed in research on Rats)

Therapy for:
  • Tinnitus masking


  • Sleep aid in a noisy environment


  • Crowd noise masking


Comments
  • Many White Noise generators on sale actually produce 'Pink Noise", which is not as harsh as White noise.


  • Their soothing sound is generally more tolerable to many, whilst still retaining many of the benefits of White noise
